About the 2008 AACR Education Book

[Please Note:The 2008 AACR Education Book Online includes one article that did not appear in the print version. "Discovery of AMG 458: A Potent, Selective, and Orally Bioavailable c-Met Inhibitor," by Deborah Choquette et al., is a part of the Educational Session titled “From Chemistry to the Clinic: Pathways for Drug Discovery and Development-- Part 3: Optimizing Drug Discovery.” The article appears at the end of the table of contents.]

Education Committee Co-Chairpersons Patricia S. Steeg and Joseph R. Bertino developed 25 Educational Sessions and 13 Methods Workshops for the 2008 AACR Educational Program. In addition, a new type of session, Basic Science-Clincal Interface Sessions, was added to the Educational Program in 2008. Each of these 13 sessions presented concepts and state-of-the-art information on a different molecular pathway relevant to cancer therapy.

Each of the 151 presenters in the Educational Sessions and Methods Workshops were invited to submit an original manuscript summarizing their field of interest for publication in the 2008 AACR Education Book. In addition, the 13 chairpersons of the new Basic Science-Clinical Interface sessions were invited to submit manuscripts summarizing their pathways.

Of the 164 presenters, 67 submitted articles for publication in the Education Book. To provide additional background on session topics for which a manuscript was not received, Education Committee Chairperson Patricia Steeg identified relevant articles from AACR journals that were reprinted in the book. Original manuscripts were submitted in the following general format:
